Evaluation

Typically, the initial visits last between 45 minutes and an hour and a half. During that visit, we will conduct a comprehensive evaluation that consists of:

Parent/ caregiver interview

We will determine the child’s strengths and interests, determine the child’s typical responses and routines, and learn about parent/caregiver concerns and goals. All of this information is used help get to know your child as well as develop an individualized treatment plan.

Skilled Observations

Since the evaluation is play-based, we will work towards increasing the child’s comfort level with the facility and therapist. During this time, we will be observing the child’s response to various sensory input, motor skills, and social interactions during both natural and structured play activities.

Standardized Testing

Standardized testing is not appropriate for all children; however, it provides objective data related to your child’s current skill levels in various areas. This information helps to create goals as well as monitor progress during treatment.

Treatment Sessions:

  • Sessions are typically 60 minute, 1-on-1 sessions. Parents are always welcome to join and/or observe treatment sessions. In some situations, children may perform better if parents are outside of the room and in these situations, a one-way glass and/or closed-circuit TV is available to observe your child’s session. Parent education is paramount to the therapy process. You may be given ‘homework’ to practice skills at home.
